ATHLETIC
HALL OF FAME
2024 INDUCTEES
Timothy Byrd ranks among the very top golfers to ever walk the halls on Severn Avenue. His exceptional career was highlighted by leading the 2006 Raider linksmen to the school’s first ever Regional Championship. His list of accomplishments along the way did not disappoint. During his time as a Raider, Timothy enjoyed a run as the #1 ranked junior golfer in the state of Louisiana as selected by USA Today’s Golfweek publication. He served as Team Captain in both his junior & senior seasons and was named to the Louisiana 5A All-State Team for an amazing 3 years in a row. He also earned All-Metro, New Orleans in his final 3 seasons. During the Raiders’ 2006 Regional Championship, a sudden death victory over Catholic League Rival Brother Martin, Timothy was awarded medalist honors for posting the lowest score in the event. Byrd also qualified for the 100th Southern Amateur Golf Tournament and was invited to play in the Golfweek Junior Invitational for the nation’s top 100 amateur players in both 2004 & 2005. In 2003, he was awarded the coveted Tommy Moore Scholarship by the New Orleans Golf Association. He competed in multiple American Junior Golf Association tournaments throughout the country. Following his highly decorated career as a Raider, Timothy accepted a golf scholarship to Louisiana Tech University, where he participated as a member of the Bulldogs’ NCAA Men’s Division 1 golf team. After securing his undergraduate degree, Timothy attended LSU Law School and is currently a practicing attorney and partner for the renown McGlinchey-Stafford Law Firm in downtown New Orleans.
In the storied history of Archbishop Rummel Athletics, Martin LaRocca’s list of baseball accolades is up there with the best the Raider program has to offer. On Frank Cazeaux’s 1997 State Championship team, LaRocca, just a sophomore, went 7-0 as a pitcher while posting a 2.22 ERA. He garnered the win over West Monroe in the 5A state tournament semi-final game, helping the Raiders reach the title game where they beat District Rival Jesuit to capture the school’s fifth baseball State Championship. Not to be outdone on the offensive side of things, LaRocca, a shortstop, hit .319 and scored 13 runs. He followed that season up with an All-District performance for Rummel’s American Legion team, Schaff Brothers. LaRocca returned for his junior campaign and picked up right where he left off, hitting .391 while playing Centerfield. He continued his prowess on the mound, which was highlighted by throwing a perfect game against Woodlawn of Baton Rouge. This helped the Raiders once again reach the State Tournament. His senior season was even more impressive as LaRocca excelled on the mound and at the plate. While playing centerfield, LaRocca hit a scorching .367 while belting 7 homeruns and knocking in 28 runs. He was equally dominant on the mound, posting an 11-2 record with a 1.19 ERA while fanning 79 batters as the Raiders once again won The Catholic League. Martin capped his senior season by being named the District 9-AAAAA Player of The Year, earning All-District, All-Metro, and All-State honors, was the unanimous choice as the Clarion Herald’s Elite Baseball Team Most Outstanding Player, and received an All-District allocation that summer for Schaff Brothers. He was also named the Co-Rufus Award winner, which is given annually to Rummel’s most outstanding student-athlete. He was selected out of Rummel in Major League Baseball’s Draft by the Baltimore Orioles and offered a scholarship to Meridian Community College. After playing for Meridian and earning All-MissLou Conference honors, LaRocca signed with the University of Alabama where he played for 2 seasons, graduating in 2004. A shoulder injury and subsequent surgery marked the end of his outstanding baseball career.
Charles Noble stands alone atop the list of Raider bowling alums, having finished his career as the most recognized kegler in Archbishop Rummel bowling history. He led the Raiders to back-to-back State Championships in his junior & senior seasons. A four-year starter for the Raiders, Noble set his mark in Raider bowling history by posting the high average in the state at 223 during the team’s run to their second consecutive State Championship in 2013. That same season, Charles rolled to a 2nd place finish in the state individuals, posting a 663 in the state finals with games of 221-219-223. He added being named Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month in April of that year to his list of accomplishments. However, that wasn’t his only dominant season. Noble initially etched his name in Raider lore during his junior year, averaging a robust 214 --- the third highest score in the New Orleans Region --- as Rummel claimed its first-ever state championship in the sport. A starter during both his freshman & sophomore campaigns, Charles averaged 193 and 194, respectively, for the Raider keglers. Rummel won or shared The Catholic League title in each of his four seasons. Under the tutelage of Coach Matt Caire, Noble’s Raider’s finished their back-to-back State Championship seasons with a perfect 32-0 record.
Derron was as gifted as any running back to ever wear the Scarlet Red & Columbia Blue. He put those talents on full display from 1996-99, when he toted the rock for the Raiders, finishing his career with 3,912 yards and 42 touchdowns as he spearheaded the vaunted Raider ground attack. Parquet was a four-year letterman. Starting as a sophomore, he tallied 839 yards rushing on only 74 carries that season, for a whopping 11.3 yards per carry while crossing the goal line 11 times. As a junior, he added 786 yards and 6 touchdowns. Like all great Raiders, Parquet saved his best for last. During his senior season he put up numbers that still rank at or near the top of the Archbishop Rummel record book. This includes rolling up 2,216 yards rushing (still a single-season Raider record) while scoring 25 touchdowns. Derron surpassed the 100-yard mark in an incredible 10 out of 12 games that season, and he crossed the 200-yard barrier four times. His 301-yards on the ground vs South Lafourche still sits atop the single-game rushing rankings in Raider history. He added yet another record that year that still holds to this day by scoring 5 touchdowns in a Raider playoff win over the Brother Martin Crusaders. Derron’s accomplishments were recognized by many as he hit the tri-fecta, earning All-District, All-Metro, and All-State honors. He was the first high school recruit Nick Saban visited after being named head coach at LSU, and one of the initial signees in Saban’s first ever recruiting class there. Derron Parquet enters the Archbishop Rummel High School Hall of Fame posthumously. He tragically passed away in 2017.
George Ryan enters the Rummel Hall of Fame as an esteemed football coach and a highly respected defensive coordinator. He spearheaded some the highest caliber Raider defenses during his tenure. Ryan’s years as a defensive assistant produced incredibly tough and fundamentally sound Raider defenses. A native son of New Orleans’ famed Irish Channel, Ryan’s neighborhood toughness bled through to his Rummel defenses when they took the field. Perhaps his best units were the 1980 & 81 defenses, which held opponents to 8.0 ppg while helping the Raiders post a 19-3 record over those 2 seasons. In that time span, they masterfully held 14 of their 22 opponents to a touchdown or less. It was the epitome of a Super Ants defense. Like Ryan, they were tough, aggressive, and performed with reckless abandon. The base 50 defense was second nature to him, and he excelled in coaching it. Ryan took great pride in instilling the fundamentals of each position into every defender on the roster, starters and novices alike. it was the front 7 where his coaching brilliance was truly exhibited. His penchant for teaching his stand-up defensive ends to properly “shuffle down” to string out a sweep was a thing of beauty. While his linebackers were often of the smaller variety, they were disciplined, quick, and hit much bigger than their size would indicate. All of his defenses were physical, cohesive units that opponents dreaded having to face. Ryan coached at Rummel for 23 seasons and was a defensive assistant for 3 Catholic League Championship teams and 9 State Playoff teams. Ryan also served as Raiders head coach for 7 years. His 1985 team was Tri-District Champs and Ryan was named East Bank coach of the year following that season. In Archbishop Rummel’s rich football tradition, George Ryan finished his career among the top Raider coaches. He also served the baseball and track & field programs as an assistant coach during his tenure at the school.
